Series 1 of record group 91-278 consists of project files of the Wildlife Division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (and its predecessor, the Department of Conservation) for the years 1932-1972 (bulk of records dated 1945-1965). Contains correspondence, reports, maps, and photographs. These files show the development of many flooding, and other wildlife areas. Many maps show the terrain of an area before a river was dammed. The dams were built to make lakes or enhance wetlands for wildlife and waterfowl. Not every project listed was carried out, some flood areas never making it past the planning stage. The most extensive files are on the Pointe Mouillee and Shiawassee Flats projects.
